Talk about cutting it close out of Phnom Penh airport. Ask me to tell you the story in person – I can’t do it justice here

German but no Spanish?
It’s not often you see German prioritized over Spanish. Drinking fountain at the gate in SIN on the way to REP.
Tech tip: use airplane mode if no cell signal
Charging my phone overnight left me with only 28% battery this morning because I had an old SIM in it. Apparently that pulls more juice than the charger provides. Oops.
In fact when I look at the battery usage, it gives that very tip (on Android): use airplane mode in an area with no cell coverage to save battery.
Singapore is hot and humid
News flash I know, but it’s a big noticeable difference vs Hong Kong. Especially in the evening.
Glad for the A/C last night.
Bought a new SIM and ate a tasty masala dhosa this morning
Arrived at hostel in Singapore
Yes it is 2am here. Next flight is in 13hrs to somewhere new!
It only took me 30min from plane arriving at gate to sitting in a taxi. Sweet!
You know that IKEA commercial where the woman yells “start the car”? This was me yelling “stop the car” a few times as he sailed by the address. Pretty funny actually.
And this Hostel is 10x better than the last one on the inside. Lockable room with only 4 beds and power ports and lockers at each bed, and an ensuite bathroom. And cleaner. For S$30/US$25. Breakie included too.
Enjoying the Thai biz lounge at SIN
Very tasty tom ka gai and self serve drinks in an airy setting. Oh, and massage chair technology has improved a lot (free)
Arrived in Hong Kong last night
Arrived reasonably refreshed, speeding through the efficient immigration top find all bags already on the carousel.
Quick ATM stop, by an airport express train ticket for HK$90/US$12 from a kiosk and jump on the waiting train.
Alight in Kowloon 21min later and HP on the evening’s last free shuttle that gets me to within a five minute walk of my hotel.
Uh oh. Sleep will be tough
Not only is there someone sitting next to me now but the empty centre 5-seats are all gone too.
This is almost 8hrs HNL-GUM with no upgrade possible.
At least my seatmate is not oversized
UA BusinessFirst meal
On the IAH-HNL flight. It is indeed in between biz and first.
Plus a warm roll, though no whole wheat rolls. WTF! ?
This was preceded with a ramekin of warm nuts and followed by a custom sundae. Mmm. I also waltzed behind the curtain and gave some drink coupons to a Cdn couple I had met on the previous flight.
On the downside, the power port is some goofy thing which is not a cigarette lighter plug and definitely not a normal outlet…
Plus snack before landing after almost 8hr flight:
Flight UA #1
It’s not everyday you get to fly on #1 In this case IAH to HNL, although flight #1 is changing to a different route next year
