So I’m enjoying a tasty traditional Khmer spicy soup somloo mjour krueng (US$3.75 plus 0.50 for a draft beer- the US dollar is used here more than local currency in tourist areas) at the Khmer Family Restaurant on Pub St, and after asking for fresh chillis (which, in my defence, was pictured on tip of the soup) and I realized I hadn’t learned any Khmer words yet.

Charging my phone overnight left me with only 28% battery this morning because I had an old SIM in it. Apparently that pulls more juice than the charger provides. Oops.
In fact when I look at the battery usage, it gives that very tip (on Android): use airplane mode in an area with no cell coverage to save battery.
News flash I know, but it’s a big noticeable difference vs Hong Kong. Especially in the evening.

It only took me 30min from plane arriving at gate to sitting in a taxi. Sweet!
You know that IKEA commercial where the woman yells “start the car”? This was me yelling “stop the car” a few times as he sailed by the address. Pretty funny actually.
And this Hostel is 10x better than the last one on the inside. Lockable room with only 4 beds and power ports and lockers at each bed, and an ensuite bathroom. And cleaner. For S$30/US$25. Breakie included too.
Very tasty tom ka gai and self serve drinks in an airy setting. Oh, and massage chair technology has improved a lot (free)

Arrived reasonably refreshed, speeding through the efficient immigration top find all bags already on the carousel.
Quick ATM stop, by an airport express train ticket for HK$90/US$12 from a kiosk and jump on the waiting train.
Alight in Kowloon 21min later and HP on the evening’s last free shuttle that gets me to within a five minute walk of my hotel.
Not only is there someone sitting next to me now but the empty centre 5-seats are all gone too.
This is almost 8hrs HNL-GUM with no upgrade possible.
At least my seatmate is not oversized
